Nick & I just returned from a trip to Bloomington, MN where we visited Quality Bike Parts (QBP) and their annual Frostbike Expo. QBP is a leading distributor to the cycling industry, offering over 36,000 products from 450 vendors to 5,000+ independent bicycle retailers. The event was held at QBP’s distribution facility, where 130 vendors displayed their products and answered questions. This being my first trip to an event like this, I was wide-eyed at all of the amazing new equipment.
Of particular interest was the Ridley booth, where we were able to see the awesome new 2014 line of cyclocross bikes. These are the same bikes that Team Belgianwerkx will be racing & riding later this year. Also catching our eye was the Special Edition Ridley Fenix with SRAM Force components. This is the lowest priced Grand Tour road bike on the planet. An incredible value, and we ordered one at the show. It’s already in the shop!
Over at the Shimano display, I was able to test out another Fenix decked out with Shimano Ultegra Di2. That was my first experience with electronic shifting, and boy was it sweet (and we also have one of THOSE at the shop)! I could go on and on, but you get the point.
I wanted to touch on a couple of other things that really impressed me. First was the building. An impressive facility to say the least. A “campus” atmosphere that includes a first-rate dining area & cafeteria, showers and 10 miles of trails out the back door. This leads to my second point. The people are SO friendly. Having a kick-ass place to work helps I’m sure. But it wasn’t just the QBP folks. EVERYONE there seemed to be happy and nice. Why is that? My guess is that’s it’s such a great industry to be involved in. What could be better than working in the bicycle business? Because it’s NOT about the money. It’s a passion and a dedication to spreading to others what we already know, that riding bikes is good for us, good for our children and good for our planet. QBP’s motto is “Every Butt on a Bike.”
We couldn’t agree more!
