Well, we got tired of waiting for Mother Nature to cooperate. The 1st Belgianwerkx Monday Night Recovery Ride took place this evening with 10 hearty souls showing up to participate. Temperatures hovered around the freezing mark while a stiff westerly breeze brought a nasty wind chill. But we dressed for it (though Brian Petted takes the Tough Man prize for rockin’ the shorts) and headed out. The pre-determined Garmin course took us through parts of Mequon, River Hills and Thiensville, totalling nearly 25 miles. We did our best to keep it at a recovery pace for most of the ride, but the last few miles got a bit frisky. The thought of getting back to the shop and warming the numbed extremities must have gotten the better of us. And let’s face it, what have we done recently to actually “recover” from? But we will do our best to keep these rides very easy.
Assuming we get some nicer weather and are able to race/train hard on the weekends, a nice & relaxed ride on Mondays will be a good way to ease back into the training week. And if we get a large enough group, we can easily break into a couple of sub-groups depending on the mood of the participants. So please come out and join us! We’ll be sticking with the 5:30 start time for next few weeks, but will push it to 6:00 sometime in May when we have more daylight. We’ll have some refreshments at the shop, or will move down to The Centennial for a post-ride toast. The route for the ride will be posted to Facebook every week if you want to study it first. Otherwise just show up ready to roll!
Now I must add a personal note. Tonight was the maiden voyage of my new Cannondale CAAD10. Now I know why this bike has such a cult-like following. Great handling, more comfortable than you’d think, and it’s a FREAKIN’ ROCKET! Stiffest bike I’ve ever been on, power goes right to the road. You often hear that it’s a great bike for the money (which it is). But it’s just a great bike, PERIOD. 4 out of 10 riders tonight were on a CAAD10. You might want to check one out. We have a couple at the shop to demo, you’ll be impressed. I know I am. See you next Monday!
