Last night at Belgianwerkx we hosted our weekly Monday Night Recovery Ride, but with a different twist. As an incentive to our newly-formed Team Belgianwerkx racing squad, I offered up a party so all could share in the glory of our first podium finish. And Jadon Jaeger obliged, taking a 2nd at the recent Milwaukee Mile event held at the State Fair racetrack in West Allis. Way to go Jadon!
Already on the calendar last night however was a post-ride event starring Chris Newlin, one of our product reps who handles Giro helmets & shoes, Continental tires, Bell helmets, Tifosi sunglasses and Fizik saddles & bartape for Belgianwerkx. So we decided to “merge” the Monday ride, Team party and Chris’s show into one big rocking event.
First, the ride. The plan was for a nice & easy ride at a social pace. The weather was good, though a tad chilly by the lake. And the easy pace plan seemed to be working as we rolled south out of Mequon, through Bayside and into Fox Point. But then as the pack entered River Hills we caught a tailwind, better pavement and fewer stop signs. Add some MAMILs (Middle Aged Men In Lycra) to the mix and you can figure out the rest. The speed kicked-up a few notches. Chris Newlin was joking towards the back about “Recovery Attacks.” Too funny. But we DO need to work on this.
As we rolled back into the shop, the smell of brats filled the air. Grill Master Jeremy had dozens of fatty sausages waiting for us simmering in Milwaukee’s finest. Throw in some potato salad and cold beer, and it ALMOST felt like summer. Great job Jeremy. And a big thanks to Pam Moroder for her supervisory skills, Paul Moroder for some more wonderful photos and Bill Dredge for manning the shop while we rode. You guys are the best.
Finally, it was time for the Chris Newlin Show. Chris knows his s**t, and he sang the praises of the products in an informative and entertaining fashion. Giro’s new Air Attack helmet may have been the most intriguing of them all. I was initially skeptical, but am quickly warming to the benefits AND the look. The new Giro Empire shoes also turned some heads, blending old school styling with cutting edge technology. Continental tires, Bell helmets, Tifosi sunglasses and Fizik saddles & bar-tape were also highlighted. Our thanks & praise go out to Chris for his presentation, and for joining our ride. As Chris mentioned, he’s not only a resource for us at the shop, but also for you as customers (as are all of our reps). Please keep that in mind if you ever have any questions about the products we carry. If we don’t have the answer, we know where to find it.
So overall, a great night! Thanks to all who rode, ate, drank, listened and participated. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. We’re already thinking about our next ride/party/expo, we will keep you posted.
